The deadline for discounted club membership is fast approaching.
It is now time to start considering renewing your membership or joining the cycling club for the first time.
Membership renewal fees
It’s true. Not only has the club agreed there will be no increase in fees for 2018 – but there will be discounts for early payment of renewals.
Have they gone mad? I hear you ask.
Well no. Early renewals enable the club to have more certainty when planning marshalling rotas and determining eligibility for club and external races / events.
So for 2018, renewal fees will be as follows if paid before 28th February 2018:
- Seniors £10 (£15 from 1st March)
- Over 65s £3.50 (£5 from 1st March)
- Juniors 17-18 or full-time students £3.50 (£5 from 1st March)
- Juniors 12-16 £0
- Family £15 (£22 from 1st March)
- Second Claim £5 (£7.50 from 1st March)
a) save yourself a few bob; and b) help the club with its forward planning.
Juniors get a free ride
Still on the subject of money, and the club has reviewed its fee structure for time trials and circuit races. Throughout 2018, juniors will have FREE ENTRY to all TTs and circuit races. The fees for seniors remain at £4 for TTs and £6 for circuit races. Guest riders will pay £5 for TTs.
Your club needs you
There’s good news on the volunteering front, with the introduction for 2018 of a more inclusive marshaling rota across TTs, road, MTB and cyclo-cross; along with the functionality for members to select their own volunteering slots using a whizzy new online booking system.
Widening out the rota to cover all races organised by the club (and to save the sanity of event organisers having to make desperate last-minute appeals for volunteer help) means there will be around 190 marshaling / volunteering ‘turns’ required from senior and veteran members during 2018.
The only snag is that although club membership has grown over the past 12 months, there still won’t be enough members to fill all the required slots for next season.
So it has been agreed by the club committee to ask all racing members (that’s people who take part regularly in TTs, road, MTB and/or cross events) to do TWO marshaling turns per season – and all other members who don’t race regularly to do at least ONE marshaling turn.
And to make life easier for everyone, there will be a new online ‘choose and book’ system for marshaling, which allows members to select their own preferred date(s) and time(s) rather than being allocated a slot.
