Special Racers Wanted

If you’ve taken part in a time trial or cycle race, keep reading. We are looking for a few rather special cyclists who understand racing and would like to extend and develop their skills further by taking on the organisation of a race.

N&DCA time trial.

The Northampton and District Cycling Association organises an annual time trial series which focuses on the use of safe, mainly circuit, routes, the results of which are included in a points competition with prizes given out for various categories at the end of the year. Events are run by affiliated clubs which include WVCC. This is the only “open” time trial that the club runs.

Tim Smith has done a wonderful job organising the WVCC hosted event for some years and it is time to hand over to someone new. So we are looking for someone to organise the WVCC hosted time trial.

With Phil Raynor as Race Secretary, WVCC organises a number of road races each year. No one can doubt Phil’s ability as a racer or a race organiser but it’s time for him to hand over the organiser role to new folk. We have opportunities for two new race organisers.

  1. La Fleche Waltonne British Masters Road Race. This is part of the Stallard series, a nationwide annual competition for all British Masters age categories. The Fleche Waltonne event is a circuit race.
  2. A A Brown Road Race. This is a spectator friendly Belgian style Kermesse race on a three mile circuit with the headquarters at nearby Walton. It is open to category 3 and 4 riders and juniors.

These roles all come with plenty of support and each event could be taken on by two people sharing the role between them. Phil Raynor will continue as Race Secretary and act as guide and mentor to race organisers and Tim Smith has offered to provide guidance and support to the N&DCA organiser.
