WVCC Off-Road 100 Miler #5 – 9 June

Our off-road endurance ride is back for its 5th edition on Sunday 9 June setting off from Great Bowden – What3Words ///indicated.maternal.node – at 6.30am.
Our annual off-road 100 miler was originally born in lockdown in 2020 as there were no organised cycling events at the time. The first year saw a socially distanced group of 6 south west to the bottom of Borough Hill near Daventry. Year 2 saw a larger group head south east all the way to Irthlingborough. In 2022 we headed north east to Belvoir Castle and the Grantham canal, returning via Rutland Water. Last year we headed west to Kenilworth and Coventry.
This year we’re headed north and west. The initial part of the route is from our 2022 Spring gravel ride and takes us to Leicester and then bisects it via the canal towpath with a quick visit to the Castle Yard cobbles and traffic free paths through the city’s riverside parks . North of the city it heads west through Charnwood and takes in a full circuit of Beacon Hill before heading south and then west again for a quick coffee at Thornton Reservoir. It turns south again for flying visit to Kirby Muxloe Castle (we can’t resist a castle on these routes). It then heads south via Stoney Stanton and Leire and turns for home via Gilmorton and Foxton.

This will be an unsupported club ride for WVCC members and friends from other local clubs, so you will need to carry plenty of spares and have a plan for rescue if needed.
Please let us know if you’re coming on our off-road one day endurance adventure via our WhatsApp group.
As ever, for off-road rides, we recommend some form of puncture protection such as tubeless tyres with sealant or self sealing inner tubes.
