Your hard working committee has been keeping the nuts and bolts of the club in good order. Here’s the latest update – with some very important dates for your diary.
1.We have co-opted Ian Parker as a new committee member. Many of you will know Ian and may have read about some of his cycling exploits on our website. You’ll find a couple of his reports here – Welland Valley Cycling Club and here Duncan Murray Wines Road Race- A Well-Rounded Event – Welland Valley Cycling Club
He is now acting as our vice-chair and taking an active part in the group organising our centenary celebrations. The committee will be proposing that Ian takes on the role of Chair from next year when Judith stands down.
2. The date of our AGM (annual general meeting) has been changed from Monday 26th October to Monday 2nd As usual it will take place at Harborough Town Football Club at 7.30pm. All club members are encouraged to attend. AGMs are known for being very exciting but they are important and a good attendance is very encouraging to the club committee which put in so much work behind the scenes.
3.Don’t forget the Lee Scampton and Vials trophies. These two trophies are awarded annually to the club members who have ridden the furthest in non-competitive, organised events; ie in reliability rides, sportives and audaxes. Club runs don’t count, but events organised by WVCC count double.
The trophies were hotly contended last year and we know that many of our members have ridden many, many, many kilometres this year. To make sure you are considered, send details of your events and distances to Roger Kockelbergh at rogerk@doctors.org.uk
4.On the subject of trophies, we need the trophies awarded last year back in good time to get them all (and there are a lot of them!) engraved and ready to award this year. They can be returned directly to Jon Durnin, George Barnett or Judith Rout. They can also be safely left in the porch of 44, Fairfield Rd, Market Harborough or brought along to the AGM. Please ensure that they are all returned by Monday 2nd November
5.A reminder that our annual club dinner and awards night will be held on Saturday 28th November at Market Harborough Golf Club. Menus are being confirmed and details are being finalised so it won’t be long before you’ll be able to sign up and secure your place.
