Timson trophy – Naseby/Bosworth 25, Sunday June 2nd, 9am start

Eighty years ago, Flying Officer Cyril Timson gave his life for his country fighting in the Second World War.
A member of Welland Valley Wheelers and a former Robert Smyth School pupil, the 22-year-old was lost over the skies of France in his RAF de Havilland Mosquito on the way to attack an industrial complex. His body lies in a military cemetery in Grandcourt, northern France.
Following his death, his family supported the creation of the Cyril Timson Memorial Trophy, which was funded by public subscription.
The trophy is awarded to the fastest Welland Valley rider – on a handicap basis – of a 25 mile time trial.
