Mud Makes an Appearance at Amazing Misterton

Storm Babet promised proper ‘cross conditions for the first time this season at Misterton. Fortunately the storm had blown through, the rain had stopped and the sun came out though for round 4 of the LCXL in the picturesque setting of Misterton Hall. The storm had also caused events to be cancelled elsewhere, so we were able to welcome riders from other leagues, mixing with LCXL league rivalries, in search of their cyclocross fix.

It was great to see so much yellow involvement as over 300 riders took the start line across 6 races and multiple generation from the under 9s to the Vet60s. It was particularly good to see a large field of 49 riders on the start line for the women’s race. MC Chrissy D’s and DJ JD’s music and commentary added to the atmosphere by  combining Smashy and Nicey with Carlton and Sean.

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to ensure the successful running of this event. More than 40 volunteers – WVCC members, friends, league officials and commissaires were involved in course prep and setting, marshalling, commentating, ensuring fair and safe racing, course dismantling and storing the equipment to make our wonderful grassroots sport happen. Thanks should also go to Mrs Craven for letting us make her back garden muddy – and her long suffering gardener Paul (please don’t cry, it will be fine after some more rain and a few weeks to recover).

Notable yellow performances were Ellie winning the women’s race and Jo beating the course in her first ‘cross race, Mea winning the U12 girls, Flori  winning the U16 girls and Rory, Jamie and Rob all  just missing the podium in close fought races with 4th in the U14 boys, U16 boys and vet50s. There’s no LCXL race next Sunday, so why not join us for our 100k Spooktacular autumn gravel ride on Sunday leaving Great Bowden at 8am (it’s not as early as it sounds as the clocks change overnight).
