Denis Smith has been keeping busy in The UK National Cross-Country championships, (along with Dom Switzer!) Also in The Vittoria Mountain Bike Marathon. Please see his account below.

This weekend saw the 2021 HSBC UK National Cross-Country Championships take place, down at Newnham Park near Plymouth.
Denis was competing in the Super Vets category (60+) and came away with a 11th place overall and 1st over 75.

Unfortunately for Denis there was the only one rider in his category, so there was no gold medal for the 76-year-old this year.

The course had less climbing than the two previous points rounds that have taken place this year, but it was much faster with
lots of twisty undulating sections, rock gardens and short sharp climbs which made for an enjoyable race.

Dom Switzer came away with 23rd in his category.

The weekend prior also saw Denis participating in the Vittoria Mountain Bike Marathon at Pippingford Park, East Sussex, where he took on the 4-lap, 72km course. Prior over overnight rain made the going very hard but was valuable training for the National Championships at Newnham
