Early on Sunday September 1st members of the Welland Valley Cycling and Bojko Velo Club joined and drove out to a small town somewhere hidden in North West Leicestershire called Moira near the wonderfully named Ashby-De-La-Zouch and took part in a 200km (128 miles) ride organised by East Midlands Forests. (Well actually Neil Doherty rode out there).
Why? to ride in honour of our great friend and fellow WVCC member John Ellis who we lost far too soon and who we all thought was just about the very best training buddy and friend we could have. He was one of the strongest, most committed riders to throw his leg over a bike. But he was also a committed and loving family man who was loved and respected globally by colleagues and friends.
We shared memories of John, most of them hilarious and full of joy and happiness, we grimaced as the miles took their toll. We stopped twice for the longest puncture fixes in cycling history (sorry).
We did him proud today, what better way to remember Mr John than to ride till we could barely turn the pedals.
