It’s a family affair at the 5+5!
While Nik Kershaw let the dads down by understandably losing out to the increasingly fast Jamie (admittedly on a TT bike – but also recovering from a crash at the weekend) Gary Roberts and Richard Hardwicke (just) managed to hold off their promising progeny, Jax and Charlie respectively.
For most riders (but sadly not your correspondent…) despite inevitable fatigue, the wind-assisted return leg was slightly quicker, but nothing like as fast as the somewhat freakish conditions of our last run-out on the westward leg of this course.
Fastest overall was guest Alex Whitmore with a cumulative time of 20.54 -a super-rapid time on a road bike. Fastest WVCC rider was again Hans Van Nierop with Tom Spencer and Jamie Kershaw rounding out our podium. Milly Pinnock continued her fine run as fastest female, beating Lucy Fraser and Alex (yet another!!!) Hardwicke on the night.
It’s great to see riders in the Juvenile category giving it their all and Aubrey Elmer recorded a fine 25.11 in beating Charlie Hardwicke.
James Moore secured the road bike category from Jack Shewring.
Full results courtesy of Jon Durnin’s Mike Ives impression are available here.
Excellent photos of the event are reproduced – here – very many thanks to Chris Elmer.
And thanks too, as ever, to our timekeepers, officials, pushers off and, of course, Angela, who ensure that these events happen.
Finally, what do Hans, Milly, Jamie, Jax and Nik have in common?
They are all current leaders of one or more of our club championships. Find out where you stand here.
On Tuesday we return to the Tour of the Langtons course, with our usual Church Langton HQ.
See you there.
