Many members will have watched with admiration, Ruby’s progress in cycling over the years. You’ll be pleased to read her latest report below. She’s now turned sixteen and joining a junior team so is about to become a second claim member. However, at our last committee meeting we agreed to amend our rules slightly. This means that long term club members, such as Ruby, are eligible to win club trophies up to the age of 18 despite being second claim members. So we can all look forward to Ruby continuing to doing well at our time trials!
I had a great final year of under 16’s racing for Welland valley, I had some brilliant results towards the end of my season and had some good events throughout the year. In the summer I raced some of the Welland valley races at Mallory park, I really enjoyed these and thought they made me a stronger rider, the first was very wet with miserable weather however many people still went, and it made for a good handicap race with four groups. These were a lot of fun at Mallory and was a really good thing to do throughout the summer before some of my big races that I had coming up.

I also loved doing the Tuesday night time trials all throughout the summer, they had a range of courses with some being hilly and and some being flat. This made for a good variety of time trials with the different courses allowing riders to experience different time trials. One of my favourite times was the 2 up time trial, me and my friend raced this and we both really enjoyed it as it was something different to what we’ve both done before and it was also on a course that neither of us had raced before as well.
Finally, throughout my season I raced in many of the youth national series races with my first being in Isle of Man where on stage one I managed to get 5th which I was incredibly pleased with and for one of my first races of the season. My greatest achievements of the year were getting two 2nd and northwest youth tour and at Scarborough, I am incredibly happy with these results and was proud to get them wearing Welland Valley kit.
Next year I will be racing for Tofauti Everyone Active Majaco. This is a junior team and most of my big races will be in Europe. I have a training camp in Calpe in February and hopefully my first race will be Trofeo Binda in Italy, this is quite a hilly race which is just over 100kms, then after this it will be races in Belgium and France.
I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone in the club, I have had some much help and support, from people on the club rides encouraging me to people giving me advice at Bruntingthorpe/Mallory and with the time trials and the advice. You have all been amazing.
Next season I will be a second claim Welland Valley rider so hopefully you will see me at some of the time trials.
Thanks everyone for your help.
