Mark Bell Memorial Hilly TT 2023
Thanks to Roger Koclebergh for this report from Sunday’s TT organised by Kettering CC.
A cold spring morning met 29 riders on an undulating course, many appropriately dressed for winter riding. There was uncertainty at the start due to reports of ice, but the course was declared clear. A lengthy addition to the risk assessment outlined some of the large number of potholes (I seemed to ride over most of them) and the late addition of a dead badger in the racing line!
There was serious competition between winner Matthew Botterill (42:56) and George Fox (43:20 fastest road bike).
Seven Welland valley riders lined up at the start, Hans Van Nierop on his road bike and John Durnin tied on 50:44, closely followed by Matt Plews (51:36). Doug Tincello (53:50) had a strong ride on his new bike, while Simon Ward (56:31) and Roger Kockelbergh (57:04) were happy with the results of winter training.
Linda Hubbard (58:19) was second overall woman but fastest TT bike, while Leah Cuthbertson (56:17) was fastest overall woman and roadbike.
A great early season opener, not as hilly as the title suggests but fewer potholes would be a bonus!
