Whizz kids Saturday skills session
Hi all,
We had a fantastic skills session on Saturday, on the first cold and crisp day of the season, that finished with smiles all round from both kids and parents after ending with a game of bike bingo.
The session began with a brief discussion surrounding the importance of warming up and swiftly led into a 10 minute warm up game which can be utilised pre-race in the future.
Following on from that, the group was split into three equal ability teams (with a special thanks going to Dad, Richard Hardwicke, for joint with one of the groups) and completed several oval relays incorporating differing skills and challenges.
We then moved to the hills in the main area of the park where we undertook segment relays with each group of riders moving from station to station, setting off their team mates as they go. As each relay race finished the dynamic of the course being altered to challenge the skill set of each group of riders.
As most of you now know me, I like to occasionally invent a slightly mad game that either goes very well or very badly. On this occasion bike bingo involved parents holding each riders bingo card and required team work with the parents instructing the riders to sprint half a lap when each number on their card was called. After some slightly dodgy bingo calling by myself, Charlie was the first to win with mum Alex shouting ‘house’ loud enough to wake up all of the neighbours. Thankfully this time round the game was a hit and will be played again for sure.
A big thanks to Ali for her help and all the parents for their continued support. See you all next time.
BOOM! *fist bump*
