Misterton Hall Delivers Proper Cyclocross Conditions in Heavy Rain

Heavy rain in the days before and in the morning meant proper ‘cross conditions for the first time this season in round 4 of the LCXL in the glorious setting of Misterton Hall. It was great to see so many club members and friends racing, spectating, marshalling and helping in spite of the rain – which fortunately wasn’t too cold and eventually stopped to give way to sunshine. It was a celebration of cycling across all ages with nearly 300 people racing in multiple categories across 6 different races.

The event couldn’t have taken place without a large number of volunteers. Thank you to everyone that helped make the cyclocross racing at Misterton happen yesterday.
Thank you to the following:
- Everyone who helped building the course and staking and taping.
- Everyone who turned up early on the day to assist with set up in driving rain.
- Everyone who marshalled and helped out on the day. Particularly standing in the rain in the morning.
- Everyone who stayed to clear the course afterwards. Everything was cleared away before 5.30pm and all that was left were tyre tracks.
- The commissaires.
- MJB First Aid Services
- Taste Outside Catering
- The support of the LCXL league committee.
- The signing on and D3 RaceTec timing teams.
- Paul Simpson of TaxAssist Accountants for sponsoring the prizes for the U9s and U12s and his team for presenting the medals.
- The league sponsors – Vanelli and Rotor.
- MC Chrissy Dee for announcing and commentating and sharing his love of 90s techno.
- Mrs Craven for the use of the fantastic venue and (and her gardener for his forbearance).
- Phil Wilkinson for putting together a very professional looking rider pack.
- Anyone else who I haven’t already mentioned who helped in any way to make the event successful.
- and lastly Kevin Mills for all his help and support with planning, course preparation, making sure I remembered everything, and being a runner on the day. Kevin will be running the WVCC Mudlarks CX training session on Wednesday at 7pm behind Harborough Leisure Centre.
We’ll be back at Misterton Hall again on 22 January for round 7 of the LCXL, with the legendary Dean Barnett returning as organiser, for a promotion by Welland Valley assisted by Ratae and other smaller Leicestershire clubs.
