There is, apparently, a bit of a bike race starting in France today that nothing compared to the main event that is the 15th running of the Tour de Welland held this year at Bruntingthorpe thanks to the support of Cox Automotive. In homage to the other event riders signed on under the French Tricolure and the Breton flag which were blowing nicely to show a strong tailwind for the finish of the stages.
Our riders started the day with a 1 lap prologue time trial to set the scene followed by a sprinters stage and then the longest day in the saddle to finish the event off. Each stage was also split by age for the riders who ranged from 3 to 13 and this also meant that no-one was around when we ran the first TdW back in 2007.
There was, as expected, some exceptional racing from our talented riders with everyone giving 100% on the day and our Technical Director Ian has crunched the results which are now available at TDW 2021 results
Thanks today to Ian, Jade and Ben, to Fabia and Sharon from Cox Automotive who made us welcome and thanks to the parents for your continued support for the riders.
There was one crash at the end of Stage 3 and it appeared that both riders were able to walk away, but could I ask the parents concerned to drop me a note to let me know how the riders are this evening please.
To bring the event to a close every rider received a limited edition vintage gold medal in recognition of their efforts.
