Three weeks ago Welland Park was wet, cold and to be fair a bit miserable but not so today as summer finally kicked in the Whizz Kids. With afternoon temperatures up in the high 20’s and full sun the Whizz Kids certainly felt the heat for a session based on ascending and descending after pointers from coaches Simon and Ben. Splitting into three groups the older two groups tacked a compact course that utilised the significant climbs and descents on offer in the centre of the park as well as slowing down for some steady bunch riding on the oval. To slow things even more the jenga blocks had an outing. The youngsters on single speed bikes used the paths randomly around the park practicing slalom, freewheeling and stopping. They finished off with (for some) their first taste of the “Circle of Doom” to slow things down to a natural stop.
Massive thanks to Ben, Ian, Jade & Simon for running the session with me, and to the parents for all your encouragement and drinks today. We’re back in a couple of weeks for one of our monument events, the 14th Tour de Welland to be held at Bruntingthorpe . Details will follow next weekend so keep a check on the emails and on here. Enjoy the sunshine for the rest of the weekend, see you soon.
