Our spring 100km gravel ride goes ahead on Saturday 17 April at 8am from Great Bowden. Note that this is an unsupported club ride for WVCC members and friends from other local clubs. So that we can organise additional ride groups as necessary please let us know if you’re coming, indicating bike type and speed.
The route heads north east on gravel and less-travelled tarmac with some mud-free grass sections and features a full circumnavigation of Rutland Water. The route will be suitable for gravel bikes, cyclocross bikes or MTBs.
The trails have dried out well and the forecast is dry for the week so the primary route should be okay for all off-road bike types.
See link to the route below (clockwise):
We also have an alternate route which is almost identical for the first 70km, until leaving Rutland Water for the last time near Lyndon, where the run in avoids some grassy bridleways, which could be a bit bumpy.
Some form of puncture protection is recommended for our off-road rides such as tubeless tyres with sealant or self-sealing inner tubes to minimise delays in your ride group. The ride is likely to take 5.5 – 6 hours, so please bring spares and food as appropriate.
Note that under BC rules we are permitted to ride in groups of up to 15, as an outdoor organised sporting activity, but when socialising afterwards or at a coffee stop we are still subject to the rule of 6.
To be added to our off-road WhatsApp group please message Adrian Killworth or email your mobile number to email@example.com
