A superb turnout from Welland Valley saw the club beat Rockingham Forest 37-19 in the annual Inter Club Challenge.
Raced over a lumpy 25 mile Middleton circuit in hot and humid conditions, WVCC fielded 26 riders of all vintages for what was a home fixture (albeit using Rocko’s clubhouse as an HQ).
With points awarded for the fastest 10 times, (from 10 for first place down to 1 for 10th), WVCC took seven of the top 10 slots.
Quickest on the night was Tim Smith, who recorded a blistering 59.44 and was the only rider to break the hour. He was followed by Matt Plews 1.02.03 (7pts), Peter Bentley 1.03.15 (6pts), Loz Cox 1.03.31 (5pts), James Lowe 1.03.41 (4pts), Michael Burke on a road bike 1.04.23 (3pts) and Nik Kershaw 1.04.35 (2pts).
Linda Hubbard was quickest lady on the night and there were notable performances and PBs from WVCC juniors Dom Switzer and Mac Carter.
The evening ended with a barbecue and beers. Many thanks to Angela Holland and Jane Dainty for the catering, club chairman Jon Durnin for acting drinks monitor, and Chris Dainty for organising.
And, of course, not forgetting our volunteer marshals / timekeepers, without whom none of the above would have been possible.
