Milly Takes on National Time Trialing
Congratulations to Milly Pinnock on this great result, which we hope will only encourage her further .
I entered the National 10 Mile TT on a cold dark day at the beginning of the year. I was fully ignorant of what this event actually was, but I needed a challenge, and having managed to convince the husband that, due to it being held in Cornwall, it might also make a nice little holiday.
I actually thought I had entered the Road Bike only event, but when it transpired it was in fact a standard TT, I realised that the only thing that might save me was the fact that the chosen course was properly hilly and an opportunity had arisen within the club to be selected to receive coaching. I applied for this, was selected and so began my coaching with Simon Ward with this event being the main target.
The forecast was spectacularly awful, which led me to doubt my life choices and abandon my white aero socks in favour of some equivalent black ones. I was worried London Mike would not approve, but needs must!
Miraculously on the start line it was dry and sunny, but with a wicked wind which managed to be thoroughly unhelpful in both directions. The support on the course was second to none, there were people with bells, horns and even one dressed as a banana cheering us on. I gave it the beans and despite having to wait for 5 cars on the roundabout I completed it in 29.34, which was enough to give me 18th over all, 4th Road bike and first in my category
An absolutely brilliant event, I loved it!
