Kibworth 4: The Haycox Report

After a long day at work and warm evening TT’ing I thought I’d save some time, upload the time sheets to CoPilot and ask it to write this week’s TT report – based on the outcome (which I include for humour) maybe that wasn’t such a good idea! It has left me wondering though, did UCI simple say ‘Hey Google, how can I make cycling safer’ and took the first answer it gave? 😊

🏁 Time Trial Race Report – Where was Everyone?! 🏁

Well, it was a warm and windy evening – perfect for a bit of suffering on two wheels – but you wouldn’t know it from the turnout! With more DNS than finishers, this week’s Time Trial looked more like a ghost town that a race.

Race Highlights:

  • Tim Wiggins was the lone warrior who actually showed up and finished, clocking a respectable 22:32. Given the conditions and the competition (or lack thereof), he wins by default – but hey, a win’s a win I suppose!
  • A special mention goes to Rider 135L, as recorded on the second results sheet, who took part in a separate event, which we assume involved actual racing. Kudos!
  • The rest? Let’s just say the DNS list was longer than the results sheet. Maybe they were scared of the wind… or their own lap times. Then again nobody else did very well so maybe just a night to forget.

Conditions Recap:

  • Temperature:Toasty
  • Wind:Relentless
  • Excuses:Plentiful

Despite the low numbers and even lower speeds, those who did bother to turn up had a good laugh and solid workout. Let’s hope next week bring less wind, more riders, and maybe even a bit of competition for Tim!

————-

Back in the real work we’d like to congratulate Tim Wiggins [who wasn’t actually a rider] and let him down gently that the honours actually go to:

  • Fastest Rider: Hans Van Nierop who stopped the clock at 21-18.
  • Fastest Women: Megan Cherry with 24-20
  • Fastest Road Bike: Daniel McDonnell with 23:27.

It was a great night of fun (and wind) with 27 finishers. A huge thank-you goes out to all the marshals who stood firm in the wing, keeping the course safe and the riders on track. Hats off for the best cakes in Leicestershire and very welcome cold drinks at the finish – your efforts are massively appreciated.

Thanks to Stuart Haycox for this report!
