5+5=9…?
Thanks to Roger Kockelbergh for stepping in as Lead Marshall on Sunday and for his report on Sunday’s TT fun:
The inaugural 5+5 time trial took place on 1st September. What, you might ask is a 5+5 time
trial?
This event replaces the 5 mile TT which has run from Hallaton for several years. We keep a
5 mile TT on the calendar since it’s one of the entry criteria for the “Juvenile Best All Rounder
trophy”. This year we hoped to encourage more senior riders to get out of bed early on a
Sunday by adding a second leg. The resulting times looked very fast given the wind and the
two significant hill climbs. In reality each leg was “only” 4 ½ miles hence the unusual
arithmetic, 4 ½ + 4 ½ is accurate but just doesn’t run off the tongue.
What really matters were the results, 12 riders started with two steep climbs, a strong initial
headwind and a glorious tailwind on the return. Gary Roberts was fastest followed by Jon
Durnin and Maciek Suchocki. Fastest women were jointly Milly Pinnock (road bike) and
Linda Hubbard. John Abbott was fastest road bike followed by Dale Norris and Milly Pinnock.
Many thanks as ever to the timekeepers and caterers who made it all work seamlessly and to Mike Ives for processing the results.
