The tough got going at Mallory
When the going gets tough, the tough got going (with apologies to Billy Ocean) at the first of the club’s Mallory ‘Summer’ Race Nights.
Twenty-one hardy souls took to the start line for 14 laps of handicap racing in cold drizzle and a stiff breeze.
Setting off at intervals in four groups based on projected speeds, riders soon found themselves dotted round the circuit in ones and twos and a few small groups.
Eventual race winner Jack Shewring (riding his first circuit event) and second-placed Kamila Leska (both in the first group to start) rode together strongly for the first half of the race before Jack went solo to take the chequered flag.
Kamila came home second c30 seconds behind; with Ruby Isaac a gutsy third after breaking away from the group 2 on the very first lap.
Many thanks to race boss Phil Rayner for sorting out the finishing positions; and to George Barnett, handicap supremo Nick Clarke and all the volunteer helpers.
The next race is on Thursday, July 25. And we’re guaranteeing sunshine all the way.
Results: 1 Jack Shewring, 2 Kamila Leska, 3 Ruby Isaac, 4 Jax Roberts, 5 Mark Thompson, 6 Stuart Dawkins, 7 Lizzie Stewart, 8 Tom Medley, 9 David Robertson, 10 Gary Roberts, 11 Dan Main, 12 Chris Allitt, 13 Phillip Richards, 14 Richard Kendrick, 15 Steve Burgess, 16 Chris Dainty, 17 Jamie Kershaw, 18 John Abbott, 19 Jason Davis, 20 Dennis Smith.
