Skills training in the sun
Following last Wednesday’s group riding skills session, Alex has kindly send this report.

“Having realised at last year’s Mallory races that cycling in a tight group was way out of my comfort zone, I jumped at the chance to sign up for skills training at Leicester Cycle Circuit. As it turned out, a select band gathered in the glorious sunshine last Wednesday to be put through their paces by Simon … we started with a simple chain gang, practising standard hand signals and maintaining a cohesive group, moving on to passing a water bottle between us as we rode and, ultimately, pushing a partner round the track as they freewheeled. It might be something my son does without batting an eyelid, but I’ve always been scared stiff of being that close to someone else and the risk of taking them out with an ill-timed wobble. As such, I was hugely proud of myself and the others of managing not just pairs, but ultimately all six of us linked across the track.
All credit to Simon for balancing encouragement with challenge and pushing our comfort zones. Strava cheerily informed me that I’d done my highest ever power output for 5s … can’t wait for the next one, maybe I’ll hit 10s at full power this time!”
Our second session is on 17th July so sign up if you think this is for you.
