Wymondon Road Race Report
Thank you to Rhys, our race reporter, for this account of the Wymondon category 3/4 road race last Sunday afternoon. Having spent much time at the front of the race, Rhys says his legs “exploded” on the last climb.

Four riders from Welland Valley were on the start line for the ICRT Wymondham Road Race 3/4 on Sunday; Chris Orfeur, Eleanor Humphries, Richard Kendrick and Rhys Thomas. There were also several club members marshalling and dotted around the course, which was great for the encouragement.
It was nice warm afternoon with a bit of a breeze – ideal for racing. The race was over five laps of a relatively flat circuit with one punchy climb lasting around a minute. WVCC were active on the front from the start putting in a few attacks in an attempt to force the break. For the first couple of laps no one got away, before finally a couple of riders got off the front. These were later joined by three more, making it five – sadly none of them in a WVCC jersey!
Efforts were then made to try and close the gap but there wasn’t quite enough cohesion in the bunch to pull them back. The highest placed WVCC rider was Chris who finished just inside the top 10.Well done all – and thanks to the organisers and all the volunteers who made the event possible.
