Mallory Race Night Report
To misquote the magnificent Colour Sergeant Bourne in the 1964 film epic Zulu: “The sentries report bike riders to the South-West. Thousands of ’em.”
That was the scenario facing judges on the finish line at Mallory Race Night III.
After 16 laps of high-intensity racing, most of the second, third and fourth groups came together on the last lap for a mad dash up the hill to the chequered flag. (Well done handicap supremo Nick Clarke).
But thanks to some sharp eyes and the marvels of modern technology, the wheat has now been sorted from the chaff.
And it was a second victory of the series for Chris Orfeur; with another well-timed sprint seeing him take the honours ahead of Richard Kendrick (recovering brilliantly from a tough ride in Sunday’s Duncan Murray Road Race) and Chris Ramsdale.
Placings 1-25 are listed below.
Thanks once again to race commissaire Phil Rayner, time keeper George Barnett and all the volunteers who made the event possible.
A reminder that the final race of the series takes place on Thursday, August 20, with a new start time of 7.15pm. You won’t want to miss it.
