Memories of Welland Valley Cycling Club
Thank you to Mr Vic Foster who has got in touch by email. Does his letter spark any memories for you?
I have just read Peter Riley’s excellent account of the club’s history. It brought back so many fond memories and reminded me of the people I’d forgotten.
My father was George Foster who, for many years was the club’s timekeeper, taking over from Bill Vials if my memory serves me right. He also rode the North Road 24 once, in what I believe was a club record at the time (about 330 miles? If you have the details it would be great to know exactly how many miles and when it was).
He married Betty Blagden, who must have been 19 when appointed to the committee in 1950, as my parents got married in April that year. I came along in early 1955 and I believe I was enrolled as a member on the day I was born!
Jack Granger was my uncle, married to my dad’s sister; he later moved to the Rockingham Forest Wheelers, becoming their president.
I couldn’t spot my dad on any of the photos, though two of his best friends, Eddie Heath and Don Lees are mentioned.Once again, thank you for reviving long forgotten but happy memories!
