Mallory Park Summer Race Series
We’ve got some great news for all club members.
Following the demise of Bruntingthorpe as a venue for our popular summer race nights, we’ve managed to secure four dates at the fabulous Mallory Park Racing Circuit.
It’s a sweeping 1.35mile track which incorporates hairpin bends and chicanes and boasts a superb surface for bike racing.
All the Mallory races will be based on a handicap system, which means riders of all speeds and abilities will have the opportunity to take part and win.
So, whether you’re a speedy racing snake or a steady club runner; Mallory races are the ideal opportunity for you to test your racing legs in a traffic-free environment.
The dates for your diary (and they’re all Thursday evenings) are as follows: July 6 and 20; August 3 and 17. All bookings to be made through SignUpGenius (link at the bottom of this post) once you’ve got your season ticket and TLI licence (link at the bottom of this post).
Racing will start at 7.30pm to allow plenty of time for ‘working’ club members to get to the track. However, you will be able to access the track from 6pm for warm-up sessions and some guided rides for those new to circuit racing.
The decision to book Mallory is a significant financial investment by your club; and it is vital as many Welland Valley members as possible support the event to ensure its future viability.
To keep costs as low as possible, the club is offering members a season ticket deal, which guarantees entry to all four races for just £30. Applications for season tickets are open now, with a CLOSING DATE of Tuesday, June 20. Simply make an online payment to the club. (Bank account details at the bottom of this post)
Entries can also be made on the night at £12 per rider (which makes the season ticket a real Brucie bonus).
In addition to the race fee, all riders will once again need to get a TLI race licence (£20 for seniors, £10 under 16). Additional benefits of having a TLI licence include public limited liability cover while out training and while involved in other TLI Cycling recognised activities, such as club runs.

Club chair, Judith Rout, said: “We’re delighted to have secured Mallory Park for our summer race nights. It’s a significant investment for the club and we really need riders of all speeds to get on board and support these events.
“It promises to be a great night of racing – whatever your level of experience and ability,” she said.
And that’s not all…….
The club is also planning to run four time trial nights with a difference during July and August.
Two of the TTs will be two-ups (that’s two riders out together taking turns on the front) and two (subject t to confirmation )will be four-ups (same deal – but with four riders).
You can form your own teams in advance; or just put your name forward and we’ll find club members of a similar speed to ride with you.
All competitors must be on road bikes. No tri-bars, pointy hats or disc wheels.
All four TTs will be on the new Husbands Bosworth-Harborough course; with the first riders off at 7pm. Entries via SignUp Genius (Link at the bottom of this post)
The TTs will all be on Tuesday evenings – July 11 and 25; and August 8 and 22. Race fees will be the usual £5 per event and can be paid on the night.
It promises to be an exciting summer on two wheels with Welland Valley; and members are urged to get their Mallory season tickets NOW.
