Thumbs up for Lubenham
Tuesday evening and another time trial. This time a new course, courtesy I believe, of Simon Ward. The course choice seems to have landed very well. Probably quieter and smoother than I expected, certainly much quieter than Kibworth, and some lovely long descents and flat sections to almost compensate for the long drags and sharp rises that also punctuated the route.
Races are, of course, about results and from a club perspective Gary Roberts won from Hans Van Neirop, in the Road Bike competition Rhys Thomas was first ahead of Chris Orfeur and Ellie Humphries won the women’s race ahead of Linda Hubbard. Second claim member Michael Burke set the fastest road bike time while guest rider Jordan Peacock set a course record and was the only rider inside 22minutes.
Speaking personally, I enjoyed the ride out and back and seeing everyone at the HQ. Like most time trials I have done, since two uncharacteristically strong rides in July 2011, I found my performance and effort to fall below aspirations.
I read on, on Strava that Adrian Kilworth rode the course thinking of Blue Oyster Cult’s “Don’t fear the reaper”. I suspect better riders than me think about pushing pedals and holding positions but my TTs are more characteristic of Peggy Lee’s song of disillusionment and resignation, “Is that all there is?”
Nevertheless I can’t think of a better way to spend a Tuesday evening in Summer and will come back next time for a course pb.
Thanks to organisers, marshals and everyone who came out to race and support a great evening.
Thanks to Nick Clarke for the report
