Ruby’s Report from the Women’s Tour de France

WVCC were privileged to have their own correspondent at the Tour de France Femmes. Club member Ruby Isaac was on the spot, met many of the key riders, and sent us this super report.

3 years ago I was lucky enough to ride with all the donnons des elles au velo a group of ladies who were riding every stage of the mens Tour de France before the riders to campaign to get a woman’s Tour de France one day, and guess what? They finally got one.I was so happy to be able to ride with them and 3 years later we have a womens Tour de France.

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to be at stage 3 of the Tour de France was and it was just unbelievable to be there. The riders were racing from Reims to Êpernay which was 133.6 km and a hilly route. Before the start of the race the caravan came through which was incredible, all the race sponsors decorated their cars and they were throwing out samples, It was amazing to see.

Seeing all the riders before the race was awesome especially Cecile Uttrup Ludwig who won the stage that day and I got to meet her in the morning, then later that day she was a Tour de France stage winner. I also got to see Anna van de Breggan, Christine Majuras and many more. I loved meeting the trek team and getting a picture with the world champion Elisa Balsamo. The finish was amazing to see Cecile come from nowhere on the final 200m and gain a massive gap and win. I loved being there and I can’t wait to see what the future of women’s cycling holds.
