Whizz Kids race report

Hi Whizz Kids, hope you enjoyed the racing this afternoon as we start our tenth series of the Whizz Kids racing League supported by Alden Electrical. Round 1 was based on the go-kart track at Bruntingthorpe and after some iffy weather lately we were blessed by sunshine and blue skies, the skylarks singing and tumbling overhead tells us that spring is nearly here – but it’s still winter and it was chuffin’ cold outside in the keen wind so with that in mind we wanted to keep our riders moving. Today’s programme gave our riders three chances to get racing, a short sprint, a timed race and long elimination race (the youngsters taking another sprint instead). There were some wonderful moments out on the track and a few oooh! moments form the supportive parents. Highlight for me was Amber and Martha in the U6 sprint , Martha led Amber onto the penultimate straight and straight into a block headwind and despite pedaling hard the wind almost stopped her dead in her tracks giving Amber on the balance bike change to briefly overtake before the last turn, a change of wind direction and Martha retook the position just before the finish line – classic racing and big smiles all round for riders still only three years old.
I have some thanks today to share, to Jade and Ian on the timing and results which will be published later, to Ben and Simon for coaching out on the circuit, to the riders who took turns on bell and flag duty and the parents for your support and encouragement – there was a definite positive buzz around the course today. Finally thanks to Fabia and the team at Cox Automotive for your hospitality. Next session is in two weeks at Welland Park for a skills session.
Lat thing – I have a couple of items of lost property, a black bidon with measuring marks on the side and a very warm looking red hooded coat were left at the end so if you are thirsty or cold please get in touch.
See you soon!
