Dom Switzer has sent us this account following the Boxing day cross at Kenilworth.
Simon Askham, Michael Burke and I all took part in the Boxing Day Cross at Kenilworth.
I think it is the longest running cross race in the country, Simon and Michael have both raced it before but it was my first time.
The mixed categories race has some unusual bits to it which make it great fun and it is a really good event that attracts a huge mix of riders from all over the country. The race begins with a mass start up a hill on a main road that is closed especially for the race; we all had a decent gridding and lined up near each other for the long up hill sprint start. The course then winds it’s way down, across the wooded common before repeating the road climb each lap. In the woods there are a couple of really big descents and drop offs and big crowds were there to cheer us on which made for a great atmosphere.
We all enjoyed the race and got good results; Simon 24th, Michael 19th and Dom 11th.
