What a Fantastic Day at Misterton Hall

What a day! It was great to see so many club members and friends racing, spectating, marshalling and helping. It was a celebration of cycling across all ages with over 300 people racing in multiple categories across 5 different races. It was a  great day for the club and the Leicestershire Cyclocross League – and fantastic to be back at Misterton after last year’s hiatus.

See link to draft results –

The event couldn’t have taken place without a large number of volunteers. Thank you to everyone that helped make the cyclocross racing at Misterton happen yesterday.

Thank you to the following:

  • Everyone who helped building the course and staking and taping.
  • Everyone who helped rake the cut grass off of the course. This was an unpleasant task that wasn’t planned for and was caused by the grass being mowed late. It was great that so many people came forward to help when the problem was identified. The course was clear and rode well as a result of the work and I wasn’t aware of any rear mechs being broken after being jammed by loose grass.
  • Everyone who turned up early on the day to assist with set up.
  • Everyone who marshalled.
  • Tim and Lucy for not taking no for an answer and insisting on helping when they worked out that I was short of two helpers.
  • Everyone who stayed to clear the course afterwards. Everything was cleared away before 5pm and all that was left were tyre tracks.
  • The commissaires.
  • MJB First Aid Services
  • Taste Outside Catering
  • The support of the LCXL league committee.
  • The signing on and D3 RaceTec timing teams.
  • Paul Simpson of TaxAssist Accountants for sponsoring the event by providing prizes for all the U9s and U12s and presenting the medals.
  • The league sponsors – Vanelli and Rotor.
  • MC Jay-Dee for announcing and commentating  assisted by Gary. I think he’s found his vocation!
  • Mrs Craven for the use of the fantastic venue (and her gardener who towed me out when my car got stuck in the mud on Wednesday after the heavy rain).
  • Dean Barnett for some very detailed hints and tips.
  • Phil Wilkinson for putting together the race pack.
  • Phoebe Killworth for the artwork.
  • Anyone else who I haven’t already mentioned who helped in any way to make the event successful.
  • and lastly Kevin Mills for all his help and support with planning, course preparation, making sure I remembered everything, and being a runner on the day. Kevin will be running the WVCC Mudlarks CX training session on Wednesday at 7pm behind Harborough Leisure Centre. Kevin will also be the organiser for round 6 of the LCXL back at Misterton on 16 January.

I had a great day. Hopefully I’ll be able to organise one again next year.
