On Saturday I rode in the National final of the GHS competition, this year held on the circuit at Mallory Park.
The GHS is a 10 m TT competition for school boys & girls and is a prestigious competition that has been won by some of our cycling greats so despite other events taking place this weekend a strong field was assembled.
I was expecting the course to be quick and some really fast times to be recorded, I was hoping for a PB to make a competitive ride. The course turned out to be not quite as quick as I expected, the winning time was 20.23 by Matthew Cole (Team Bottrill) and I finished in 12th place with a time of 22.13 (a PB by 1 second).
I was grateful to Jon Durnin and Matt Plews for coming out to encourage and cheer me on and to Kian Traynor for a gentle nudge off the start.
On Sunday, cross started in the central league and a large group from Welland Valley headed off to contest round 1 in very un cross like conditions. On a dry and dusty, bumpy course I was pleased to start my season off with second place and a spot on the podium.
Next weekend I will race at Cannock in the final round of the National Mountain bike series before the National cross season stats at Derby the week after (hopefully it will rain before then).
