Race report from Dom Switzer who rode in the Inter Regional Youth Mountain Championship, part of the Glentrees Youth stage race.

At the weekend I rode for the East Midlands at the Inter Regional Youth Mountain Championships which were part of the Glentress Youth Stage race.
Glentress is one of the best places in the UK to race Cross Country mountain bike and the organisers put on a great event.  We travelled up on the Friday to Peebles and stayed at a nearby campsite with my team mates and some other friends.  The sun shined just long enough for Dad and I to get the tent up.
The racing is over 4 stages,  a short time trial,  team relay, an hour long Cross Country race and then to finish us off a hilly dirt crit.  With the racing over 3 different courses Saturday morning was taken up with practice sessions on each of the courses and then the TT in the afternoon;  this leaves 3 really hard efforts for Sunday and by the end of the crit we were all pretty spent. I was pleased with how I raced, it was good to feel much better in the legs than I had in the recent National races and I finished 15th U16 boy.  As a team we had a great relay, finishing 3rd and the girls in the team had some excellent individual results- the final scores were close at the top and the East Midlands finished 5th.
Intense racing over 2 days as part of a team is a brilliant experience and it is great that the region gives us this chance.  The stage race also includes individual racing in each of the youth age groups from U12 to U16 and is a great opportunity for any young mountain biker.
Next up I will swap fat tyres for TT bars as I race in the final of the GHS on 4th September.
