Many thanks to Dom Switzer for sending this account after taking part in the Mountain Bike National series at the weekend.
“At the weekend I travelled to Monmouth for round 2 of the Mountain Bike National Series; I was joined there by club members Austin & Dennis Smith who were racing in the Vets.
The venue was in a beautiful valley hidden down narrow lanes; the course was a lot different from some modern bike parks – it was described by some as “old school” and by others as “agricultural” however it did provide some evil climbs, technical cambered descents and a couple of drop offs to keep us on our toes. For both Austin and I it was our first national MTB race since 2019 and so the massive high intensity efforts required for the race came hard and we both had rubbish gridding as a result of missing round 1 – I was actually the lone rider on the last row but managed to get a good start and tried to catch as many riders as I could on the first long climb before settling in to the race and finishing 18th from the field of 53.
It was great to be back racing my mountain bike at the big races and I am now looking forward to the rest of the season”.
Thanks very much for this Dom, and well done to you, Denis, and Austin.
