It is great to hear that British Cycling has partially lifted the suspension of Club activities earlier than was originally anticipated. It confirms socially distanced rides in groups up 6 are allowed, and BC sanctioned activities can resume outdoors provided the government’s social distancing rules are followed.
This is still a long way from resuming normal activities and we need time to think through what this means for WVCC, specifically for Whizz Kids coaching activities.
There is no prospect of any BC sanctioned racing until at least August and that may well also be in different formats – we are waiting to hear more from British Cycling in due course.
The British Cycling announcement does not cover Time Trials. Cycling Time Trials (CTT) are looking at the possibility of sanctioning events from early July, and the Committee is working hard on how this could happen for WVCC.
With regards to Club rides:
- Off-road lends itself to being socially distanced, so socially distanced off road rides of up to six riders will begin soon.
- A further announcement about club rides of up to six people will be made once the Committee has had time to gather its thoughts and consult with ride leaders.
So, this is a step forward, but please be patient if you have to wait a bit longer for Club activities to begin again.
If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please get in touch with a member of the committee.
Please keep yourselves safe, ride responsibly and don’t forget to wave.
Jon Durnin, on behalf of WVCC Club Committee.
