Peterborough Cc Qualitech Road Race

Four WVCC Road racers were out yesterday to carry the flag for the club at Southwick for the Peterborough Cc Qualitech Road Race.In the A/B race for “younger” riders the riding was tough with many attempts to establish a break on this 6 mile circuit with a hill (with a water tower) at the end of each lap.
Unfortunately James Moore was unable to make the start line on time due to illness and chose to ride around at the back of the pack without engaging in the race.
A number of riders attacked during the early part of the race including Rob Moore but a nervous pack would not allow anything to get away. Finally a rider broke away with just over a lap to go. Tim Smith put in a spirited attempt to bridge the gap on the hill to the water tower with a lap to go but was unable to make a meaningful gap.The lone breakaway rider Paul During from Echelon RT managed to stay away to the line with a 25 second winning gap.Rob took home some winnings for his 8th place overall and 5th in his age group. Tim was not far behind in 12th securing 9th in his age group, though a little displeased when someone mistook him for a much older team mate who rides four age groups higher! In the E + category Bunny was disappointed that he did not join a break of 6 that went away in the second lap as he was still wary of over extending himself after “blowing up” early in last weeks race. With two of his age group in the break he came in ahead of the rest to take 3rd in the F group.Next Sunday sees the usual suspects contesting the 4th Round of the Percy Stallard competition at the Enville CC Road Race in Staffordshire.
