Josh sprints to 9th

A trio of Welland Valley CC riders contested the GT Ellingworth road race over 77 kilometers.
On a twisty technical circuit, Rob Moore, James Moore and Josh van Nierop all featured in a strong field of competitors.
Rob Moore escaped in a 15 rider break only to see their lead diminish as the race was caught up in agriculture traffic.
As the race entered the final lap six riders forged an opening and on the tight narrow lanes, they were never seen again. As the bunch started to jostle for position in the final few kilometers Josh had found the ideal space to enable the Welland Valley rider to sprint to 9th in the hilltop sprint.
A fine reward for Josh as he is just starting to find his form following suffering a broken leg at the start of the season playing football.
This Saturday the trio will contest the A A Brown Engineering RR – a Welland Valley CC promotion – at Walton, near Lutterworth with fellow Welland members.

Michael Burke had a busy weekend, on Saturday he was racing on the closed road circuit of Salt Ayre, Lancashire.
In an intense 48km race cover in 60 minutes Michael finished 11th in the appropriately named Body TORQ Fitness Crit.
Less than 24hrs later Michael was in Bedfordshire contesting an event over 140km, the Great Barford Road Race promoted by Icknield Road Club.
In hot humid conditions and 3hrs 30 minutes in the saddle, Michael crossed the finish line in 29th place in a high-quality field.
