Introducing WVCC’s time trial courses
Fancy a go at a club time trial, and want to know a bit more about the courses?
This page provides a summary for each course, an overview map, and even a Garmin route for you to download.
All our courses are approved, risk assessed and marshalled but it remains the responsibility of riders to be familiar with courses and road conditions before they ride.
Hallaton 5 and 5+5

A very quiet rural course, ideal for beginners because the hard finish (in either direction) makes pace judgment vital.
To note in your recce: Wind direction really affect this course – it can be brutal if against you and strong cross-winds can affect the fast descents at the start (both directions.)

Hardrider 9.5

A very quiet rural course with not much flat riding, so pace judgment plays a big part in success as the course rolls up and down repeatedly before a fast finishing stretch after the last turn.
To note in your recce: Don’t go mad at the start! It climbs then drags before a steep fast descent with a bend which can surprise the unwary before a right angle turn at the bottom. The descent into and ride through Horninghold needs care.

Thorpe Langton 10

A very quiet rural course: great for beginners – a course where pace judgment is essential – the start is fast then the road rises and falls until the turn to through Cranoe.
- To note in your recce: this course has a right turn in Welham which needs some care. (Go to the left of the cone in events or be disqualified!).
- Be aware as you pass the Wheel and Compass pub in Weston By Welland of traffic entering/exiting the car park and take care at the left turn at the church.
- After turning onto Paynes Lane before Medbourne, the next turn towards Slawston is sharp and it is easy to end up on the wrong side of the road.
- Care at the entry to Slawston.
- NB Straight on to the finish to the finish just shy of Tur Langton

Tour of Langtons 10

A quiet rural course – but requiring some careful riding at/before turns
To note in your recce: Particular attention to possible traffic needed at the first turn left at the crossroads at the top of West Langton hill. Take a precautionary or “high line” around bends in Church Langton and Tur Langton so that any traffic approaching from the rear has clear sight of you. After Tur Langton there is a well-surfaced but steep descent. The turn in Three Gates is sharper than 90 degrees, so take care. The descent to the sharp left in Kibworth Harcourt is fast and parked traffic on the right as you enter the village makes the road narrow. Be mindful of parked cars and particularly of traffic coming towards you before you make the turn to the finish before Tur Langton.

Walcote 25

A quiet if challenging rolling rural course with particular care needed at turns.
To note in your recce: Pace judgment is essential as the course has a variety of drags which outstay their welcome (in the opinion of this XL tester). The sharp first turn left in Husbands Bosworth is onto a narrow one-way street, with traffic likely to be parked on the left so care is needed. The second turn (onto Pincet lane) is very very sharp and riders will need to to take this slowly to avoid being on the wrong side of the road. At North Kilworth the left turn needs attention to traffic coming from the Lutterworth direction. From here the course undulates west to the small roundabout at the top of Lubenham Hill (care) and then returns eastwards to Walcote; in both directions riders MUST stop at the pedestrian controlled crossing in Husbands Bosworth if the light is red. NB. Marshalls will be instructed to disqualify anyone who contravenes the highway code.

Kibworth 10

A fast A road course – a good introduction to the “out and back” style of an open course with more significant traffic and somewhat busy roundabouts
To note in your recce: For reconnaissance purposes choose a quiet time – weekends or light evenings – which is when we run our events. At other times this road is very busy. Joining the A6 from the start layby in Kibworth Harcourt requires care and attention as do the “McDonalds” and Harborough roundabouts.

Kibworth 25

Essentially incorporates the Kibworth 10 course with an additional 15 mile “out and back” to Corby. This course has the busier A6 with its roundabouts and the rolling road to Corby and back with its grinding gradients at Stoke Albany and Brampton Ash.
To note in your recce: For reconnaissance purposes choose a quiet time – weekends or light evenings – which is when we run our events. At other times this road is very busy. Joining the A6 from the start layby in Kibworth Harcourt requires care and attention as do the “McDonalds”, Harborough and Corby roundabouts. The descent from Dingley to the Harborough island is fast and the Harborough island (currently) not brilliantly surfaced so please take care.

Lubenham 10

A relatively quiet rural course which rolls out and back through small villages
To note in your recce: The turn at the roundabout at the top of Lubenham Hill needs care. The road is quite narrow.
