Jen steps out of her comfort zone at the Ratae 10!
Who can remember 1987?
Jen can. For those that need a nudge, it was the year that Stephen Roche won the Giro d’Italia, the Tour De France and the World Championships, Rick Astley topped the charts with ‘Never Gonna Give You Up, U2 released ‘The Joshua Tree’ ….. and Jen Hulme last did a time trial!
In the first major comeback of 2026, Jen took the the start line on Saturday’s Ratae RC’s 10 Mile TT on the Gilmorton course, swapping the orange of Whitby Wheelers for the yellow of Welland Valley Cycling Club.
Jen was so nervous at the start she managed to turn the wrong way out of the HQ to warm up, but was paced round to the start by two Ratae members and reached the startline with 10 mins to spare. Wanting to go under 40 minutes, Jen stomped round the undulating course, with a cold wind in impressive 34.23.
Fippin’ brilliant. Well done Jen!
Jen’s husband Jason Williams was the fastest WVCC rider, with 25:05 on a road bike. Fastest on the day was Kettering CC’s Evan Collett with a speedy 23:50, with Megan Cherry fastest woman on 25:10.
