Tough Muddy! A grand day out at Leicestershire CX Round 5

A hardy contingent of Welland Valley CC members braved the ‘entertaining’ weather conditions to race Round 5 of the Leicestershire CX League, organised by Coalville Wheelers at a new venue, Manor Farm at the site of the Grace Dieu Priory.

The under 9s and under 12s races saw Whizz Kids brave the conditions and beat the course, you all did the Club proud.  Conditions were really cold for the kids races, and every rider showed great resilience and grit.

As the day wore on, the main challenge for riders was clogged and frozen cleats, with the countryside around the adjacent Grace Dieu Priory and the former Charnwood Valley Railway ringing to the round of riders banging the pedals to try to clip back in.  Plenty of climbing and adverse cambers meant plenty of running off the back, and some muddy tumbles to entertain the spectators.

All the races were cracking fun, with lots of smiles and banter at the end.

Big thanks goes to Larissa and her team of volunteers from Coalville Wheelers CC, who delivered an great course and a warm welcome, and the LCXL team and Commissaires who kept everyone numbered, tagged and safe.   Big thanks also to Mr Bream of Manor Farm and FCV International Football Academy.
