WVCC score an “Olympic” victory
Thank you to Doug Tincello for this report from the Melton time trial and many congratulations to our riders.
On Saturday 25th May Melton Olympic cycle club hosted their Open 25 TT (including the Veterans Time Trial Association) on the A25/34 course from Newark to Bingham and back. The race was graced by no fewer than eight members of WVCC.
Jon Durnin will tell you this is a really fast course if the wind is right; I have raced it twice now and the wind has always been wrong! On Saturday it was an east/north easterly which on an out and back course gave us a cross tail wind out and a brutal cross head wind coming home. This gave us some advantage on the drag up to Bingham, but was simply cruel on the return leg.
Nevertheless, myself, Maceij, Jon, Matt, Nik, Austin, Graham and Simon set off undaunted and it turned out to be a good day. A very good day in fact: personal best times for me and Maceij, with both of us going under the hour for a 25 for the first time, and Jon, Matt and Graham ripping the race to pieces and winning the team prize.
A great day out! I keep telling Maceij that because it was Vets Association race, it’s the age adjusted times that really count….
