Whizz Kids presentation day

Hi Whizz Kids, with all the excitement yesterday and with the pre-Christmas rush with people to see and places to go I apologise for the lateness of the report from yesterday’s presentation for the Mallory Roadrunner and the Whizz Kids Racing league. It was good to see all the riders and parents together before Christmas and we had a good session (without bikes but with chocolate) but the main event was the presentation of the Racing League trophies and medals. Most of the winners were there in person or had sent in a parents note explaining their absence and we had Steve and Linda from Alden Electrical there presenting the awards to the winners.
I didn’t clarify the criteria yesterday but all riders who had raced in the qualifying number of rounds received a trophy and medal, and those who had missed the qualifying number still received a medal, so no-one left empty handed. I still have the medal and trophy for John and Mary from the U-6’s and also Daniel and Charlie in the U-10’s. We’ll get these presented to you as soon as we can.
There was an additional award made by the main club committee who agreed that our Rory has shown great improvement over the year and he received the Hyde Award for 2023.
Additionally all riders were given a pair of clear lens protection glasses and as Simon Said we would like to see these being worn at sessions and events in winter or where there are muddy or gritty conditions.

Thanks go out to coaches Ian, Jade and Sophia and Simon for generally keeping things under control, to Steve and Linda from Aldens and finally to Judith and Jon for ensuring that you all made a bit of a fuss of me. Thanks to Judith for organising the signed jersey, which I’ll treasure, and for the exceptional cake as well as making sure there was cups of tea as well. Thanks to Clare and Jon for the video message montage from current and past Whizz Kids and coaches, it was very touching and to be fair I should have taken Simons advice about protective glasses as I did seem to get a small piece of grit in my eye during the videos. Thanks also to Neil from George Halls Cycle Centre for your ongoing support for Whizz Kids. I’d just like to finish the report with some mixed news. Sadly long time club member Bill Barrie passed away recently, he was always encouraging riders and I know some of the past Whizz Kids will have known Bill. At his funeral there was a collection with proceeds going to the Youth Development fund and I’m happy to say that over £1300 was collected for the benefit of our young riders.

Thank you all for all the kind words and gifts yesterday, I hope you all have a very Happy Christmas and lets all look forwards to a great 2024!
Cheers, Kev.
