Whizz Kids Misterton Trailquest
Yesterdays Whizz Kids was a collaboration with the club’s annual Ride for Rosemary event held at Misterton Hall near Lutterworth and unfortunately the weather at 2:00pm wasn’t kind resulting is a 25 minute rain delay before the session finally kicked off with a couple of warmup sprint races before we started a trailquest around the grounds. If you haven’t come across this type of event before it is essentially orienteering on bikes. Scattered around the estate were 17 checkpoints, some easy, some a little harder to spot and a time limit of 40 minutes. Each of the checkpoints had an associated score depending on the distance from the HQ, and time penalties for coming in late starting at 1 per minute up to 5 minutes, then 5 points per minute after that. We had eight teams riding and the last got home in 48 minutes so lost 20 points.
Working the strategy best were Sylvia and Sophia who despite losing 2 points for coming home in 42 minutes managed to get 15 out of the 17 checkpoints and ended with a score of 368. In second place was a three way tie on 340 between Elsie (360-20 penalties) Alex (340 but finished early) and Chris also on (360-20 penalties). All the results are from he link below
Thanks today go to Simon and Ian for guiding our riders and to all the parents who supported the riders and rode as teams. It’s interesting to note that four of the teams found checkpoint four, unlike our knock down crew who missed this one completely
Also grateful thanks to Mrs Craven for the use of the grounds and to Tim and Lucy for organising the Ride for Rosemary day which despite the inclement weather appeared to be a great success.
We’re in action again on September 9th and Simon will be leading as I’m away, full details will be posted out nearer the time. Hope you’re all dry now, see you soon
