Whizz Kids Tour de Welland 2023
Hi Whizz Kids, The annual Tour de Welland has produced some cracking races since it’s inception in 2007 and yesterday continued that trend with some solid racing on a hot and sticky afternoon down by the lake at Misterton. Doubling up as a round of the Whizz Kids Racing League (supported by Alden Electrical) and with riders in all classes apart from U-14’s there was the chance to get some high scores to add to the year long series. Yesterday’s course was a straightforward loop from the start/finish on the path, up the hill through the woods before a fast decent across the field back to the finish and the U-6’s were first away for an (almost) 1 lap blast, they did start at the top of the hill. Riders included Willow (3) who was making her debut on a bike after making the move up from a balance bike in the last month although we did nearly lose her in the longer grass in the field. Also on a new bike was Martha who seemed at ease with it, certainly kept mum and dad busy keeping up. Good to see Louie and Barney getting really stuck into the racing as well.
We were able to run the U-8’s, U-10’s and U-12’s together with Charlie and Rory trading places and at the front and other creditable performances across the field, Jack in the U-8’s having an “interesting or individual” riding style and race face which proved extremely effective, but superb performances across all races and everyone is improving, however the coaches notes a couple of riders pedaling so fast on the run to the finish we couldn’t see the legs, we may need to work on gear selection a bit at the next skills session to make better use of the cogs Full results will come from Ian but thanks to Ian and Jade, to Ben making a welcome return to Whizz Kids during recess from University, Wayne for the images and to the parents for supporting, and a special mention to Richard for the Ice poles at the end and Claire for the melon slices, A nice thought and well appreciated by all. Finally thanks to Mrs Craven for the continued use of the estate and allowing Whizz Kids to use a nice part of her back garden. We’ll see you in a couple of weeks time, stay cool!
