2nd May TT race report
Thanks to Doug Tincello for this report and to all who enabled the event to take place.
Members and guests of WVCC gathered in Church Langton for round 7 of the club championship last night. It was almost warm, and while there was a breeze, unusually from the East, it was much more benign that two weeks ago. Not so much the beast from the East, as a rather annoying whippet from Corby.
42 riders were welcomed by the TT chair and the atmosphere was lively, but that may have been due to a reluctance to venture out into the rapidly cooling evening, rather than excitement for the racing to come.
Thanks to the timekeepers, marshalls and pusher off-er (resplendent in fleece jacket and WVCC bobble hat!) The racing was brisk and competitive. Your correspondent achieved a course PB and a few personal scalps from the internal hit list. I imagine similar virtual contests were happening across the pack.
Top dog was Gary Roberts, with a tarmac melting 25.4mph for 23’36”. closely followed by Hans van N, guest Phil Wilkinson and the big D. Top lady was Ellie H, proudly sporting a new Vo2 max, with 22.6mph for 26’34”. Jamie Kershaw took the crown for fastest juvenile with 22.7mph for 26’25”
In the road bike category, honours went to Guy Bibby with 24.5mph for 24’32” with Rhys Thomas and Chris Orfeur in a close fight for silver and bronze (just over 24mph, with only four seconds between them.
The fast times may have been due to the temperature falling fast as the sun dipped to the horizon, and the welcome warmth of HQ. Full results here: Club Championship 2023 Event 7 (wellandvalleycc.github.io)
