Important news about Bruntingthorpe

This morning (24 April) I met with Fabia, who looks after us so well at Bruntingthorpe, and have   some bad news to report. Triggered by events entirely unrelated to  Welland Valley CC, the owners of Bruntingthorpe have decided that, with immediate effect, the track and facilities will no longer be available for use by the public. This includes our planned racing events and Whizz Kids.

For information, below is a copy of the email which has gone to all users of the track.

“It Is with much regret that I write to inform you that we will no longer be taking bookings for the Bruntingthorpe Circuit with immediate effect. I Fully Understand that this will come as a disappointment to you and your organisation.

“We have arrived at this decision, following a recent review, factoring our immediate site needs and need for evermore space and hard standing. Health and Safety concerns about the track and run off areas especially as we get very busy generally on the site. We are a COMAH (Control Of Major Accident Hazards) Establishment, and the Health and Safety Executive are keen for us to restrict all but essential access to our site. And finally, Cox Automotive do not see the track as a core part of our business. As such I am contacting all customers with this disappointing news. If you have paid a deposit for any future bookings, we will gladly refund it.

“I do appreciate that this news will come as a disappointment, but the sites safety is my primary concern and the focus on our core operations my second.

“Thank you for your understanding.”

I have written to thank Bruntingthorpe for the support they have given to the Club over the years, and thanked Fabia personally for the tremendous work she has done.

The Club Committee and Bruntingthorpe group are already researching alternative venues which might be usable for our planned series of road races and time trials in July and August.  We will, of course, keep you informed as soon as we have more news.
