Two testing time trials
Riders have ‘enjoyed’ two early season ‘hardrider’ TTs on the testing Medbourne course in March.
On 12th March, 20 riders enjoyed reasonable conditions for One of the Club Championship and the 1st of the Hard Rides series on the Medbourne Circuit, a 9.5 mile TT
Any hopes of a quick day were quickly crushed on this already brutal course, although the wind did push riders up the first climb. Second Claim rider Michael Burke (VeloElite) beat Gary Roberts by a second to take the win, with Matt Plews coming in third. Linda Hubbard was the fastest woman, and Jamie Roberts the fastest juvenile. Special mention to Austin ‘hardrider’ Smith, who made life even harder for himself by tackling the course on his mountain bike! On 26th March, conditions were ‘challenging’, wet and cold with strong winds from the north. This had an effect on the field, with only 10 riders making it to the startline. This time it was two laps of the Medbourne course, and there was trepidation at the startline. Having developed a taste for chicken dinners at last weekend’s NCRA road race, Rhys Thomas took the win, with Matt Plews second, and youth development rider Jamie Kershaw taking a superb third. Special mention to Ruby Issac, fastest woman who raced the final round of the icebreaker track series in Newport the day before. Special mention and thanks to all the volunteers, without whom WVCC events cannot happen, course setting, signing on, marshalling (and encouraging), results and catering. Thank you.
The next TT is the third hardride at the Langtons 10 course on Tuesday 4th April.
