Winning Ways
Great to see so many WVCC jerseys flying round the Misterton course on Sunday for the last round of the Leicestershire league. Well done to all including Jamie Kershaw who came 4th in the under 16 race, Alex Hardwicke who came 3rd in the vets 40+ and to Harriet Evans (now riding for Brother UK) and Ellie Humphries who came 2nd and 1st respectively in the senior women’s race.Â
We’re delighted to have this race report from Ellie.
Sunday saw the final round of the Leicestershire Cyclocross league hosted by Welland Valley at Misterton Hall. I haven’t managed to race much this season so I was feeling particularly nervous, more so in anticipation of the upcoming 40 minutes of pain, which I knew was coming. Unbeknown to Chris Dainty it was his wise words which actually made me decide to do it!
I was gridded at the back of the pack and managed to get a cracking start and got up to 2nd position within the first quarter. The red mist then took over and I found myself fighting for 1st position, I could also hear everyone cheering around the course which spurred me on even more. I was really enjoying the course that Dean had designed and I managed to get a nice flow going during the race. I was having a good fight for 1st trying to be tactical and making sure I was in the lead into sections and sprinting out of corners. However, my lack of fitness (and experience) caught up with me and on the final lap I dropped back finishing 2nd overall which I am really pleased with and has got me excited for the season ahead.
Thank you to Dean for organising such a fantastic event, It was a great atmosphere (as always) at Misterton and the Welland Valley support was really uplifting and definitely helped me during the race- thank you everyone!
