Highlights from the AGM

Thank you to the 30 or so souls who made it through the torrential rain and got to the Club’s AGM, held on Halloween this year. They obviously heard there was cake on offer as well as a bar!

This AGM was Jon Durnin’s last activity as chair of the club.  As always, he performed it splendidly. He thanked a lot of people: sponsors, volunteers, supporters, the committee and club members. He noted that WVCC is thriving. The two are connected.

The club is in a healthy financial position and has been investing money in equipment that will further enhance its activities. More money is available to invest. It is proposed that membership renewal fees (if paid by the end of Feb) will be reduced further next year, to £5 for Senior members.

Membership is at a record level: 332 members at the last count. It was encouraging to note the half the members who have joined this year are female and over a quarter of members are now female.

It was good to hear such positive and encouraging reports from the time trial secretary, off road secretary, road race secretary and youth development secretary. The meeting thanked Tim Smith for his work as time trial secretary, particularly throughout the covid restrictions. He relinquishes the post to Roger Kockelbergh who will lead a group to manage future time trials.

Sarah Mee has also stepped down from the committee and was thanked for her work as women’s captain.

There are other changes to the committee too. Judith Rout becomes chair, Ellie Humphries becomes women’s captain and Rhys Thomas, Andy Poulton and Kamila Leska join the committee.

The evening closed with Stuart Dawkins thanking Jon for the huge amount of work he has done for the club over many years. Jon was presented with a painting of an evening’s race at Bruntingthorpe. It was the evening that it poured with rain, if you were there, you’re likely to be in the painting.
