Ancient PB Broken

Congratulations to Andy Poulton on breaking his Personal Best record for a 10km time trial  – quite some achievent all these years later!

Having bored anyone who’ll listen with the fact that I took a brief sabbatical from time-trialling (which turned out to be 15 years) I’m now going to bang on about improving my PB for 10 miles after a mere 22 years.

I’d not ridden the N7 at Earls Barton before, but those of you who have will know it turns out to be very, very quick. The weather wasn’t perfect for Thursday’s Kettering CC club event, with a nagging easterly, but on this course that didn’t seem too bad a deal as for just under 6 miles that’s effectively a tailwind. I was also lucky with the turns (helped by great marshalling) and didn’t panic for once when George Fox cruised past me just after the three mile mark. (He went on to win in 18.06!)

Anyway, 21.41 was my first time under 22 minutes. Very pleased with myself- “insufferable”, according to my wife. To be fair, the last time I set a PB, Ford were still producing the Escort. I wonder if Ford will still exist when I next improve on this time in 2044?
